Gorgeous Waterfalls of India
Whenever we need a break
after weekdays we used to roam around nearest places to us. If it would be
waterfall we will get refreshed completely. Because falling water from certain
height on our head will relieve our stress and make us feeling refreshed. India
is home for number of beautiful cascading waterfalls, which are more beautiful
than the Niagara Falls. Some of these cascading beauties are found in the
southern part of the country, which is well known for its high-altitude
waterfalls. A large number of these beauties are set amidst the lush-green
mountains in the most serene environments. However, the north-east, central and
western parts of the country have a sizeable number of waterfalls, which
continue to attract a large number of nature lovers. Have a look at some of the
most beautiful and most visited waterfalls in the country.
Dudhsagar Falls (Goa)

Most of us seen this waterfall in the Bollywood movie SRK's "The Chennai Express". It is situated on the borders of Goa and Karnataka, Dudhsagar Falls is a four-tiered one which comes crashing down from a height of about 310 m. The water falls with such a force that when one looks at it from a distance, it resembles like milk being split over the rocks. Due to this, the waterfall is known as Dudhsagar and is one of the most well-known waterfalls in the country.
Hogenakkal Falls (Tamil Nadu)

Located at a close proximity from the city of Bengaluru, Hogenakkal waterfall is formed by the river Cauvery. At Hogenakkal, the river Cauvery falls and give birth not just to one waterfall but multiple ones, as the water gushes down the rocky terrain of the region. At certain places the water cascades to height of almost 66 ft and sounds like a thunderstorm. Lot of crocodiles are there, so we should be aware while traveling in small boats. You can also enjoy herbal oil massage there.

Located amidst the pristine natural environment, Vantawang Falls showcases the beauty of the lesser-explored side of Mizoram. The waterfall is located at a distance of about 137 km from the city of Aizwal and is born out of the Vanva river. The cascading beauty measures about 750 ft and named after a well-known swimmer of the region who lost his life here.

Situated on the border of Shimoga and North Kanara districts of Karnataka is one of the tallest waterfalls in the country. Jog Falls is formed by the river Sharavati and plunges down from a height of 829 ft as four different waterfalls, namely Raja, Rani, Roarer and Rocket. The waterfall comes to life during monsoons and as the weather changes to winter, the glowing sun enables one to come across a beautiful rainbow across the waterfall.

Situated at a distance of about 20 km from the city of Satara in Maharashtra is the scenic Thoseghar Waterfalls. The waterfalls is a series of cascades with some ranging from 15 to 20 m and one from a height of 200 m. The place is a very popular spot for the folks in Maharashtra, especially during monsoons, it also one among the lesser-known gems of the state and due to this, Thosegar still maintain the natural environment from humans.

Athirapally waterfalls is located in Chalakudy, Kerala. The waterfall is very popular amongst tourists, nature lovers and the film industry; the waterfall can be seen in a large number of Hindi and regional language films. Originating from the upper reaches of the western ghats and flowing down at a height of about 80 ft before meeting the Chalakudy river is the Athirapally waterfalls, which is considered as the tallest waterfall in Kerala. India's highest grossing film "Bahubali" was taken here only. The entire waterfall scene shooted here and made it like humongous with the help of Graphics.

Located close to Cherrapunji is the rain-fed waterfall called Nohkalikai Falls; it is also one of the tallest waterfalls in the country, which plunges down from a height of 1115 ft. The waterfall is located amidst a massive green gorge. It is believed that the waterfall got is name after a Khasi tribe woman named Ka Likai, who jumped into the waterfall after realizing that she had consumed the meat of her own daughter.

Located at a distance of 80 km from Mysore is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Karnataka, Shivasamudram. It is formed by the river Cauvery flowing down from a height of 320 ft in two parts named Gagana Chukki and Bhara Chukki. The waterfall is also the location of one of the first hydroelectric power stations in Asia which was established in the year 1902. If you are staying in Bengaluru definitely this will be the best place to visit on weekends.

Five Falls of Kuttralam located at a distance of 65 km from Tirunelveli district in Tamil Nadu, Which is well known for the famous dessert "Halwa". This 160ft water fall is located near Kerela border. Most of the pilgrimages from Sabarimala will come here. We can get herbal oil massage here and then we can take bath in that. Sometimes due to heavy rain at the top the water falls out of the boundary. That time government will restrict us from taking bath. This place is also famous for Edible Banana chips and spices. The season begins here from June month on wards, it means after the southwest monsoon.
