Alleppey - A Short trip to Venice in south

                                          A small portion of land surrounded by water called as Island. So how will you call if the entire city floating in water??? Most of us remember now about the floating city Venice. A small city in Italy became a destination for people who love to travel the entire city in a small canopy. Many of us added this city in our Bucket list and plan to visit atleast once in our life time. But most of us cant able to spend that much money to visit Venice. For these kind of people a small town in south asia offering the same kind of experience with nature as added flavour. Alleppey @ Alapuzha, a small town floating in the back waters of Arabian sea. People used to call it as Venice of South. I have seen Venice in pictures only. It was filled with building looks like floating in water, a small river or back water flowing in between houses and people used to travel by boats.

                                         Alleppey is different, here also water but originally its a big lake. Lot of small islands are there in which people built houses and living inside it. Venice completely depends of water transport but Alleppey having water, road and rail ways for transport purpose. Staying in Alleppey boat house is favourite spot for many married couples in India. More than boat house, people came hear to get famous Ayurvedic massage of Kerela. Enough lets go to our Alleppey diaries.

How to Reach???

                        Road ways and Rail ways are connecting Alleppey from any part of Kerela. Allepey railway station is there. In case if you are planning to take flight. Kochi and Trivandrum are the nearest airports from Alleppey. Nothing to plan for travel if you come outside station or airport you will get prepaid taxi or prepaid auto. They will drop you at boarding point with in 15mins. Dont forget to book boat house, because lot of demand for that. Better book it atleast 3 days before the starting day of your journey.

Our Experience

                        We reached Alleppey by train and hired an auto. None of our team members didnt get marry so there is no limit for us to enjoy the trip. While booking the boat house itself they told Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast for next morning will be at cruise. On the way to boarding point we saw Alleppey fish market. Kerela is famous for Parotta, beef and fish. People will cook these dishes well when compared to other states people. So we went inside the market and bought a fish weighs nearly 4 kgs which is enough to feed 10 members. We reached boarding point exactly at 12 pm. Our cruise is ready to depart, two people there both can able to drive as well can able to cook. Within few minutes we started the journey.

                        They prepared lunch a bit early. Edible Kerela food waiting for us on the table. Without wasting time we took bath and finished our lunch. The crusie is actually having two stories. First floor having three air conditioned bedrooms. Second one having a deck space with sofa and TV for entertain. But we used it for sight seeing purpose. Honestly admitting we even dont know where we are going, whether the sailors sailing in proper route or not. Still the view of Alleppey's back water and coconut trees along the coast gave some pleasant feeling to us. On the way we saw small small islands which have only two house on it.

                         We should not miss the sunrise and sunset while travelling in cruise at Alleppey. The sun rays glittering on the water looks like we are travelling in a wonderland filled with orange juice. After sunset the sailors parked the cruise near to some island for the entire night. We went out and roam around that small island for few minutes later returned to cruise. There they prepared the fish bought by us and served it for dinner. After so many years we saw fireflies on that night. Eventhough we had air conditioned room. We slept on the deck itself by seeing the sky.

                            Next day morning we had break fast and reached the boarding point. Still more than 5 hours there for us to get in the train. We didnt waste time and directly went to Alleppey beach. It looks so clean when compared to beach at other Indian cities. We played in beach and had some sea food as snacks. Later got train as per our plan and reached home on the next morning. It may not be a proper travelling plan. We just need some relax from our work on weekends and chosed Alleppey.

                               Hope all of you got some information about Alleppey. Approximately we spent around 4000 Rupees per individual for the entire trip including train travelling expense. If you people are planning for a short weekend trip Im sure Alleppey will be one of the best option to get rid your stress.
